Honorary Guest Talk & Quiz Competition

We have successfully finished our first program, "Honorary Guest Talk & Quiz Competition," of the 2021-22 committee. The speaker of our program was Professor Dr. Mary Hubbard, Department of Earth Sciences, Montana University. Our special guest was Professor Dr. Nazrul Khandaker, Earth and Physical Sciences Department, CUNY York College. The principal purpose of our program was to gather knowledge about the cross faults, hazards, and climate in the Himalayas. Throughout the whole session, the speaker introduced us to the major faults and Himalayan reviews. We learned about the major controversies about inverted metamorphism and channel flow, cross faults, seismic hazards, and climate change. At the end of the program, we have concluded that there are still many remaining questions about the Himalayas. The cross faults may play a role in seismic activity. Our primary concern moving forward is the impact of climate change. International collaboration is a must to solve the remaining problems. After the lecture program, we arranged a Quiz Competition. The winner of the competition is Zohur Ahmed Tahmid, 51st batch. The 1st runner-up is Saba Karim, 50th batch. The 2nd runner-ups are Tanzila Eva, 49th batch, and Afsana Rahman Supria, 50th batch. All of them are from the Department of Geology, University of Dhaka. We devoutly thank Professor Dr. Mary Hubbard for her phenomenal presentation and Professor Dr. Nazrul Khandaker for attending the program and pointing out many valuable points alongside questions. We also cordially thank all the participants of the "Honorary Guest Talk & Quiz Competition." SPE Dhaka University Chapter is in debt to Professor Dr. Syed Humayun Akhter for helping out the SPE DU executive committee to arrange the program and monitoring the activities during the pandemic situation..
